Wednesday 28th July Mileage 1944 campsite between Voss and Gudhagen

Because the weather was awful went to the loccal petrol station and had coffee and croisant.  Went back to the campsite and sitting in a dry veranda of a cabin listened to Bill Bryson " A Brierf History of Nearly Everything" untill rain stopped.   Broke camp on on my way, or so I thought, got on bike and tom tom was dead!! Unpacked the camping gear took the seat off and using my Fluke that I ama really glad I brought managed to resolve the problem, think it was to do with the car adapter beig squashed under the seat.  Got it all working and off on my way for real.   Weather cleared up after about 11:00am.  Norway what can I say the views are beyond belief, it's like the lakes and scotland, but in spades!!  It's just one photo after anothert, the problem is finding somewhere to park close to the view you have just seen.

Stopped at a place to take a photo and put the side stand down, but unfortunately it was the centre stand and when I lent the bike over to get off I couldn't hold it upright and had to gently lay the bike down.  No damage so I thought I would just pick it up again.  No way, with the wait of the baggage etc I just couldn't pick it up.  I tried 3 times, but thought I am going to hurt myself here if not careful.  I decided not to off load all the luggage and just waited for someone to come past and I would hail them down and ask them to help.  Along came a farmer on his tractor.  He was laughing and jovial and together we easily picked up the bike.  All well so carried on.

Stopped to talk to 2 bikers from Denmark who were brewing a cup of tea at the side of the road. They were going to Voss as well, and then I proceeded to meet them at every ferry terminal.   The ferries are very good, and there are lots of them.  It is the only thing in Norway that is cheap, it's about 40kr(£4) for each crossing.  Some of the sheer drops at the side of the raod are fantastic.  Also saw my first glacier today, but from a distance, hope to get closer tomorrow. As evening approached saw this campsite at the side of the road under a magnificent waterfall.  Expensive 130kr a night !!   Decideed to stay so went back to supermarket to get food and camped here.  I went for a wsh and dip in the waterfalls and then pitched my tent in wet shorts.   The couple adjacent were from Holland and were staying at this site for 3 days.  Having camped I now discover that these waterfalls are a key tourist attraction and bus loads of Japanese and Russian tourists arrive by bus, take snaps and are then shepherded back by the tour guide.  They are here for 5 mins only.  They look oddly at me making my meal on a little stove and my tiny tent, they must think I am mad.  Again after meal, beer and wasshing up am very tired so off to bed about 9:00pm.  What a great day it has been, I wish other people could experience this with me !
