Sunday September 19th mileage 10,100 15km north of Bellinzona Switzerland

Slept ok, had to have the TV on all night switched to a blank channel with volume down to create heat for my phone and gloves to dry out!!  Couldn't text Savi as the phone was on the blink after I left open the zip pocket on the tank bag where I keep the phone!!   Phone dried out in morning so sent the "I'm ok text" to Savi.

Breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, nuts and then cold meats/cheese etc.  Coffee was awful, barely luke warm!!

The proprieter was a spitting image of the Eastenders actor, the geeky man/boy who used to own the alsatian Wellard  ( cannot remember names any longer!!).

The day was glorious sunshine, so set off for the alpine passes with great optimism and hopes of seeing nice scenery/views.

Had a great day climbing via hairpin bends into high passes.  Got some great scenery type shots.

Stopped for lunch at a roadside cafe and had a Lasagna, iced tea and then an absolutley superb ice cream sundae all for 25Fr.

I have no vinyeta for Switzerland, when I enquired at the border they told me they only do annual vinyetas and these cost 60Fr  (about €40) so decided to avoid the motorways in Switzerland.

Went through St Moritz and then down towards Bellinzona.  Tomtom set to keep me off the toll roads, but somehow managed to get on the main road to the St Bernado tunnel.  After the tunnel came off the toll road and the side road was a great ride.  Virtually deserted and nice smooth tarmac and sweeping bends, a pleasure to ride.   No incident today managed to keep the bike upright all day long!!

When I am on the narrow hairpin type roads other bikers zoom past me, they seem to be zigging in and out of the traffic and they only gain a few minutes off the journey.

Stopped at what I thought was a pretty ordinary looking hotel in a fairly industrial area on the way to the St Goddard Pass and the proprieter wanted €60 for the night ( with gross breakfast!!) but the room was not very nice so m oved on and found another similar looking place and the bill for bed and breakfast was just 44Fr (about €30) and if anything the room was nicer!!

More later
